GUITAR FASCINATION: TRAILS TO JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH Approaching the limitless source by the currents
The latest programme by Lothar Theissmann is a unique musical journey - and an approach to Bach in a way that is as personal as it is compelling.
Starting with Music from Here and Now, open-style and open-minded: The Instrument “Guitar“ in its different ways and idioms is being presented. After passing the great, well-known fields of guitar culture - South America and Spain - the path leads towards the past, the music is getting more concentrated, until the brilliant Suite in E flat Major, BWV 998, with its quiet and timeless Fugue, will be presented as a fitting and convincing final.
And consistently the links and relations to Bach are flaring up: Throughout the harmonies of Modern Music, in the choice of composers inspired by him, within the glimpses of polyphony... ...the sparsely and perfectly set “Homenaje“ by Manuel de Falla will finally lead to the musical works by Johann Sebastian Bach and their art of limitation, their emphasis on the essential, their harmonic perfection.
A programme to open the ears and connect mind and senses - right in the sense of J.S. Bach himself.
